Lake Ciarcerio

2371 meters hiha and reachable by path 10A, the Lake Ciarcerio – Charcherioz in patois – represents an excellent aim in order to being fit for more important excursions. Moreover, the lake is of a rare beauty, a wide basin surrounded by rocks. Here follows the chronicle of my run, made on July 3rd 2004, with fantastic meteo conditions. I left Champoluc at 8.10 AM, I reached first Frantze and then Crest – Moreletè, where I took left as usual, towards Creforne. Once arrived at the crossroad I choosed the dirt road on the right, which allowed me to reach Lake Saler; after that, crossing beautiful meadows and woods where I exceptionally saw a chamois, I reached Belvedere Refuge, finding it open.

From the Belvedere, or more in details from Contenery’s basins, full of water in early July, I reached the curve on the flatland and I wend down in a funnel – shaped hollow, where there was a beautiful dark – blue lake. In front of me, northwards, I could see the steepy arrival of Ciarcerio’s road. I finally reached the lake at 10.10AM, after a pleasant and peaceful walk. I relaxed myself for about half an hour on the eastern side, where I still could see many snowfields, before keeping up along the same road, going towards “Mandria”’s zone, where I arrived by 11.10AM. from there I could admire the whole Bettaforca’s Valley. By midday I was at halfway of the aforesaid valley, after having been on the steepy ski tracks on the left of the skilifts; at 12.20 I reached Resy, where I had lunch. Briefly, here’s a beautiful excursions I recommend to everybody.
