Col Bettaforca

Important pass which links Champoluc and Gressoney Valleys, the Bettaforca (2727 mts) represents and excellent starting point for winter sports (it’s reachable by two cableways, from each valley). You can reach it from St. Jacques, passing through Resy, walking through alpine meadows. Walking along the dirt road, the run will take about one hour from Resy and offers numerous panoramic places, perfect for a break, or picnics, or simply amusement. At last, we have to distinguish between Bettaforca Pass and the homonymous Mount, 2969 meters high. At Mount’s foothills there’s also the beautiful Lac de la Forcaz, at 2323 meters of altitude.

The Bettaforca offers a refreshment house open both on summer and winter season. From here starts the path which in three hours and a half takes to Refuge Quintino Sella (3585 meters): in that zone there’s a planty of chamoises. Just a last note: after the 9th july accident, which I had the bad luck to assist at, I’d like to recall to pay extreme attention at eventual rocks falling down on the dirt road, just before the Pass.
