Lago
Blu
The Blue Lake
The
Lago Blu (Blue Lake, 2220 meters) maybe represents one of the well known
places in the whole Ayas, mentioned by all the existing handbooks, and
famous outside the valley itself. It’s
a pretty recent lake, subsequent to the 1856 Sardinian States’ Charta.
First
of all, this lake hasn’t got a name purely picturesque: its water,
owing to particular mineral concentrations, is really blue, and
any fish could ever live in the lake. More in details, it’s a kind of
oxidation phenomena which happens on the soundings, where there are
particular rocks, called “oliophyilites”.
The
lake represents, this way, an enormous satisfaction scenery, increased
by the presence of the imponent glacier. The
left side of the lake, the one lying under the big, gray moraine, offers
some big rocks which are perfect to relax on.
The
lake is easily reachable from the Lower Verra Plan: on the left, before
to cross the bridge over the torrent, the signals will take you to path
7A, which, in less than half an hour, will bring you to your destination.
On
the maps it’s written that the aim asks for two hours of walk, but
from Blanchard, little village just over St. Jacques – not to be
mistaken with the homonymous village on the way to Tournalin Refuge.
Anyway, it’s a simple and fascinating walk. Still
two notes. The 7A path is really narrow and, if it’s crowded, the walk
could be extremely uncomfortable. Last, the lake excercises an
understandable attraction on tourists, so you have to consider that,
during weekends and the whole month of augusts, its shores becomes
particularly crowded.
