Champoluc
– Frachey – St.Jacques – Blanchard – Mètsan Alp This
run presents greater difficulties, and it’s fit only for skilled
bikers; nevertheless, also a boy can do it, if supported by adults.
It’s done mostly on dirt roads, and it’s necessary to take with you
individual protection as a crash helmet for bike. Mètsan
is easily reachable from Mandrou, by bike. It’s enough to ride along
the road which takes to Antagnod and follow the signals. If you want to
know more, it’s good to look its section on this website. Reaching
Mètsan from St. Jacques is, instead, more complicated. Ther’s an old
abandoned muletrack, but it’s almost invisible from valley floor and
therefore is unknown; however, it’s an ancient walser run which
was used to go towards Switzerland This
muletrack starts from St. Jacques: it’s enough reaching the village,
without standing in the major square and climbing along the torrent,
taking on your left until you reach the higher bridge, the one with a
little religious plaque. Cross the bridge and continue on the road,
towards the joinery and further. The road is dirt but in good condition,
and it isn’t too steepy. The
worse trac of the whole run is this, a group of hairpin bends steeps and
rocky, which will take you high. After that you’re on the road, and
you simple have to go south. The muletrack is flat, easy and funny to be
done. There are also two tunnels, abandoned and not well done; signals
don’t allow you to get there because of collapse danger, and so it’s
important to be careful. The
author won’t take any responsabilities for accidents; until summer
2002 the tunnels were in a good condition, even if they are quite dirty
and it’s good not to pass there after a rainfall; if you want, you can
ask for information at Guide’s Office or Champoluc’s AIAT. Once you have crossed the tunnels, the muletrack goes on until you reach Mètsan. Obviously, you can come back using Antagnod’s road, which is absolutely funny!
